He was predeceased by: his parents, John Alfred Hembree and Ena Myrtle Timpson; and his wife Imogene. He is survived by: his girlfriend Elaine Hornyak; his sons, John Charles Hembree, Jr., Joseph Hembree (Chelsie) and Robert "DeWayne" Gross (Jan); his sister Jeanne Emerick; his grandchildren, Madison Hembree, Chance Gross, Austin, Dylan Gross and Peightyn Gross; and his pet Bandit.

In lieu of flowers the family respectfully asks for donations to be made to St. Croix Hospice in Jefferson, Indiana.
