He was predeceased by: his parents, Wilbert Sr. Wessel and Viola Steinkamp Wessel; his wife Eunice M. Stuckwisch; his son Randall K. Wessel; his granddaughter-in-law Kristie Jo Schroer Wessel; and his siblings, Edward, Walter Ralph, Debron Wessel and Rosa Nell.

He is survived by: his sons, Dennis H. Wessel (Paulette) of Columbus, Gary A. Wessel of Columbus and Lester D. Wessel (Joanne) of Greenwood; his daughter-in-law Kathryn "Kathy" Chadd Wessel; his grandchildren, Derek Paul Wessel (Claire), Shalah Noblitt (Matt), Sterling Wessel, Jacob Wessel, Matthew Wessel (Cassie), Samantha Walterman (Joe) and Ryan Wessel; his stepgranddaughter Stacey G. Wetherald; and his siblings, Wilbert Wessel Jr. (Donna) of Brownstown, Lee Wessel (Mary Lou) of Columbus, Kelso Wessel (Judy) of London, Bill Wessel of Brownstown, Ivan Wessel (Shirley) of Jackson County, Violet Wischmeier (Robert) of Jackson County, Audra Deaton (Michael) of Depauw and Opal Roark (Ron) of Scott County. He is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren.
