He was predeceased by: his parents, William Spears Sr. and Juanita Nickerson Spears; and his son Eric Spears. He is survived by: his son Larry Spears (Deana) of Oklahoma; his stepdaughter April Petrie (Deric Nentrup); his grandchildren, Ariel, Eugene, Eric, Elliot, Ethan and Nathan; his niece Tina Buckley (Mark); his great-nieces and great-nephews, Anthony and Kelsie Robinson; his nephew Kevin Branum; and his friends, Bonita Sutton and Joyce Turc.
