He was predeceased by: his parents, Cleo Smith and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Smith (Casey); his siblings, Carl, James, Stephen, Dennis, Guy Smith, Juanita Kearney and Jeanette Williams; and his grandson Christopher Smith.
He is survived by: his wife Barbara Smith (Kochert); his children, Alan J. Smith (Debbie) and Kelly Cagle (Bill); his siblings, Rosalie Boyd (Fred), Thomas Smith and Mitchell Smith (Barb); his grandchildren, Ryan Cagle, Devan Cagle (Rachael), Morgan Cagle (Kylie) and Timothy Smith; and his great grandchildren, Jax Turpen, Ollie Smith and Kross Cagle.
Visitation was held on Saturday, August 9th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Swarens Funeral Home (1405 IN-64, Ramsey, IN 47166). A funeral service was held on Saturday, August 9th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
The family requests that donations be made in Gerald's name to the Harrison County Community Foundation, 1523 Foundation Way, Corydon, IN 47112.
