He was predeceased by : his mother Sarah Ann Thurman Whitaker. He is survived by : his wife Jan; his niece Mia Miller; his nephew Matthew Whitaker; and his grandchildren, Wyatt Edge, Jacklyn, Robert Miller, Castle, Palmer, Wells, Oakley and Lex Whitaker. He is also survived by his family, friends.

During his 32-year career with the Indiana State Police, Steve made significant contributions to the force.
