He was predeceased by: his parents, Allen Merrick and Leah Merrick; and his children, Amy Merrick and William Fortener. He is survived by: his wife Diane Merrick; his daughters, Suzanne Michalski (Michael) and Cassandra Schmidt (James); his grandchildren, Randy Merrick, Kaylin Kocoj (Chris), Nate and Noah Fortener; his siblings, Jerry Merrick and Jeanine Shuttz (Terry); his great grandchild Summer Kocoj; and his brother Allen Merrick (Virginia). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
