He was predeceased by: his friend Lance Mc Elfresh; his siblings, Charles Vander Kooi (late Dorothy), Marv Vander Kooi (late Judy) and Ruth Marquarite (late Wilbur); and his siblings-in-law, John Swets (late Gertrude), Clarence Swets (late Jo), Gertrude Schaap (late Ralph), Carrie DeVries (late John) and LaVerne Van Dyk (late Art).
He is survived by: his wife Joy Vander Kooi; his children, Scott Vander Kooi and Wendy Vander Kooi; and his sisters-in-law, Evelyn Groen (late Jay) and Henrietta Dekker (Butch).
Visitation was held on Tuesday, September 8th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Smits Funeral Home (2121 Pleasant Springs Ln, Dyer, IN 46311). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, September 8th 2026 at 12:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Wednesday, September 9th 2026 at 12:00 PM at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery (20953 W Hoff Rd, Elwood, IL 60421).
