He was predeceased by: his grandchild Zoey Valle; and his siblings, Dr. Denise Gehrling and Donald Gehrling. He is survived by: his wife Lisa Gehrling; his children, Danielle Gehrling, Douglas Gehrling, Jr., Katie Koziol and Jeanne Wishard; his grandchildren, Aleaha, Nova Valle, Davis, Emmalee Mansanarez, Zachary Seals, Violet Koziol, Kylin Zissler Owen and Natalie Wishard; his brother Dennis; and his nieces and nephews, Diane, Heather (Jay), Dennis Pio (Cece) and Bryan.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, May 12th 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Palos-Gaidas Funeral Home (11028 SW Hwy, Palos Hills, IL 60465). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, May 12th 2026 at 7:30 PM at the same location.
