He was predeceased by: his parents, Wendell Smitherman and Lois Smitherman; his siblings, Mark Smitherman of Amo and Bonnie Covey of Maumelle; and his sons-in-law, Randy Parsons of Sheridan and Chris Goins of Danville.
He is survived by: his spouse Shirley Anne Brown; his children, Crystal Mart (Brady), Caryn Parsons, Connie Goins, Carol Barnett (Tom) and John, Jr. (Cheryl); his siblings, Mary Jane Hartung of Avon and Marvin Smitherman (Colleen) of Mount Pleasant; and his sister-in-law Barbara Hunter of Fredericksburg. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
