He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Groover and Mary Groover (Harshburgar) of Pittsboro, Indiana.; his siblings, Jewell Groover and Christine Stephenson; and his sons, Danny Ray Groover and Robin Groover.

He is survived by: his wife Nancy Adamson; his children, Jeffery Groover (Teresa), John Mark Groover (Missy) and Cathy Jones (Stephen); his daughter-in-law Joyce Groover; and his grandchildren, Elizabeth Allspaw (Gregory), Adam Jones (Tiffany), Brett Jones (Leanne), Bart Jones, John Mark Groover II (Faith), Jordan Sattler (Shawn), Zachary Groover, Nicole Neibel (Nick), Mikayla Groover, Katelin Groover, Amber Taylor, Naomi Hampton, John Betzold, Jerry Betzold (Samantha), James Betzold, Aaron Johnson (Khelsea) and Carrie Matthys (B. J. Kelley). He is also survived by 12 great grandchildren.
