She was predeceased by: her husband Ralph A. Berning; and her siblings, Irene Buuck, Harold, Marvin and Edwin Stoppenhagen.

She is survived by: her children, Leon Berning (Tammy) of Uniondale, Indiana, Bruce Berning (Jackie) of Castle Rock, Colorado, Brenda Ness (Kim) of Huntington, Indiana, Stuart Berning (Robin) of Lebanon, Ohio and Cindy Kennedy (Mel) of Fort Wayne, Indiana. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and seven great great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Zion Lutheran Church, Friedheim or Worship Anew.
