He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert C. Butcher and Magdalene E. Butcher (Borne); his son Scott Alan Butcher; his brother Phillip S. Butcher; Alicia A. Butcher (Levy).

He is survived by: his wife Gloria J. Butcher (Wall) of Decatur; his children, Eric D. Butcher of Oaktown and Jennifer A. Terry (Mark) of Indianapolis; his stepchildren, Brad P. Nelson (Monica) of Carmel, Douglas J. Nelson (Theresa) of Decatur, Meredith Beavans (Ryan Hildebrand) of Louisville, KY and Christine S. Bloom (Matthew) of Decatur; and his brothers, Robert Eugene Butcher of Decatur, Steven L. Butcher (Billie) of Decatur, Daniel J. Butcher (Barbara) of Decatur and Neil D. Butcher (Martha) of Redkey. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to Zion Lutheran Church or St. Mark's United Methodist Church.
