He is survived by: his wife Louise Fink; his children, Teri Bechtel (John) of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Cheryl Stockman (Eric) of Decatur, Indiana and David Melcher of Decatur, Indiana; his sister Marjorie Myers (Tom) of New Haven, Indiana; and his grandchildren, Benjamin Bechtel, JP Bechtel III, Nicole Bechtel, Christina Salerno (Frank) and Samantha Stockman.
