He was predeceased by : his parents, John N. "Jack" Shields and Faye Shields (Westerhouse); his son Spike; his brother Johnny Shields; and his brother-in-law Mike Bunnell.

He is survived by : his wife Susie; his children, John Shields (Heidi Justice) of Delphi, Jessica Corso (Mark) of Monticello and Greer Andrade (Marcus) of Aviano, Italy; his sisters, Kalene Bunnell of Monticello and Kim Wiley (Darrel) of Delphi; and his grandchildren, John "Jack" Henry Shields, Makynlee, Natalee Corso, Kylie Andrade and Marley Everett.
