He is survived by: his wife Shirley Johnson; his children, Merrill Johnson Jr. (Traci), Angela Crawford (Barry), Terry Johnson (Tonya) and Jerry Johnson (Julie); his grandchildren, Ashley Johnson, Amanda Catron, Allison Johnson, Hayley Hamm, Ryley Crawford, Kasey Johnson and Joshua Gregory; his half-sister Kanda Hurst; and his stepsisters, Georgia Steele, Barbara Reece and Juanita Huller. He is also survived by 6 great grandchildren.
