We announce the death of Mary Kathryn Sobkowicz of Cedar Lake, Indiana, born in East Chicago, Indiana, who passed away on September 19, 2026, at the age of 79. Mary Kathryn will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. She was predeceased by: her parents, Walter Sobkowicz and Ann Sobkowicz; and her sisters, Suzanne Kozlowski (late Alex), Jacqueline Wandel and Nancy Greer.
She is survived by: her significant other Michael Engleton; her nieces and nephews, Michael Bruhn, Jill Bruhn, Joyce Fabisiak (Rich), Judi Ringle, Audrey Wilson, Kaia Hughes, Elizabeth, Madeline Kruger, Alex and Kylie Fabisiak; and her friend Barbara Mattingly.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 29th 2026 from 9:30 AM to 10:00 AM at the St. Maria Goretti Church (500 Northgate Dr, Dyer, IN 46311). A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, September 29th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the same location. A burial will be held on Tuesday, September 29th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens (711 W 77th Ave, Merrillville, IN 46410).
In lieu of flowers, contributions to Hospice of the Calumet Area or St. Jude Children's Hospital in her memory would be appreciated.
