He was predeceased by: his parents, Rabie L. Smith and Ora Mae Smith (Lewis); his wife Wanda Smith (Gilbert); his son William "Mike" Smith; his siblings, Joe Ann Thurmond, Jane Meinschein, Donnie "Duck" Smith, Kenneth Smith and Rabie Jr. Smith; and his grandson Geoffrey Stricker.
He is survived by: his children, Tammie Bugher (Laine), Robert "Bobby" Smith (Jane) and Gary Smith (Selena); his sister Shirley Merriman; his daughter-in-law Frances Smith; his grandchildren, Kymber Baumholser (Jason), Lisa Warner (Tim), Maria Lenn (Sam), David Smith, Kristie Almon (Leif), Andrew Smith (Kristie) and Dr. Shawn Isaacs (Kira Wessel); and his great grandchildren, Ethan, Kylee, Maci, Gavin, Mia, Gabby, Gage, Emma, Maddy, Mason and Mallory.
