He was predeceased by: his father Everett Thornton. He is survived by: his wife Cindy Thornton of Elkhart; his children, Jessica Cotti (Adam) of Annapolis, Tyler Thornton (Mackenzie) of Minneapolis, Preston Thornton of Osceola and Mackenzie Thornton of Osceola; his foster daughter Alicia Pemberton (John) of South Bend; his grandchildren, Levi, Natalie, Cole, Theo, Quinn and Graham; and his siblings, Jim Thornton (Jackie) of Richmond, Virginia, Ruth Bessey (David) of Grand Rapids and Caroline Hansen of Oceanside, California..
