It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Barbara Bender of Elkhart, Indiana, born in Independence, Iowa, who passed away on November 27, 2022, at the age of 95, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Martin Bontrager and Lydia Ann Bontrager (Yoder); her spouse Omer Bender; her sons, John Bender and Duane Bender; her stepgreat-granddaughter Jaelee Bender; and her brothers, Tobias Bontrager, Allen Bontrager, John Bontrager, Joe Bontrager, Marvin Bontrager, Edward Bontrager and Reuben Bontrager.
She is survived by: her sons, Dale Bender (Wanda) of Shipshewana, Omer Bender (Kristi) of Knoxville, TN and Mark Bender (Esther) of Middlebury; and her siblings, Ann Knepp of Granger, Elva "Sammi" Reiff of Bristol, Jonas Bontrager of Elkhart and Marty Bontrager of Shipshewana. She is also survived by six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, four step grandchildren, nine step great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to Faith Mission or Rainbow Years Learning Ministry.
