He was predeceased by: his parents, Bethel Payne and Margaret "Maggie" Emma Payne (Pollard); his brothers, Robert Payne and James Payne; his half-sister Doris Randolph; and his stepbrother Georgie Lee Payne.

He is survived by: his children, Michael "Mike" Payne of Cassopolis, MI and Cindy Bird (Ernie) of Osceola, IN. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
