She was predeceased by: her parents, John Joseph Baird and Mary Theresa (Mandeville); her stepfather John Vicsek; and her brother Ed Vicsek. She is survived by: her husband Ramon Portillo; her children, Annmarie Hostetler of South Bend and Thomas Caparell (Susan) of South Bend; her stepchildren, Patricia Jimenez (Oviedo) of Elkhart, Norma Escamilla (Marcos) of Goshen, Graciela Machado (Sergio) of Goshen, Ramon Jimenez Jr. (Mirna) of Elkhart Josue and Esaul Jurado of Elkhart; her sisters, Diane Sabaj, Theresa Pietrzak (Greg) and Karen Anthony (Tom); her sister-in-law Kay Vicsek of Mishawaka; and her pets, Angel, Coco, Max and Oreo. She is also survived by five grandchildren, 21 step-grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 1 step-great grandchild.
Because of her love for animals, Joann's family would like donations given to any low cost or "no kill" animal shelter in her name.
