He is survived by: his wife Martha; his children, Juan Hernandez Elias, Anthony Hernandez, Raúl Hernández, Julia McGaha, Anjelica Chavarria, Remedios Hernández, Francisco Hernández and Daniel Hernández; and his sisters, Urbano Hernandez, Amelia Hernandez (Pablo Hernández Casarez) and Josefina Hernandez Casarez (Raul Hernandez Casarez). He is also survived by 30 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
