He was predeceased by: his parents, William Knapp and Olivia Knapp (Tenbarge); his wife Shirley Knapp (Bumb); and his siblings, Carolyn Rexing, Mary Rose Peak and William Knapp.

He is survived by: his children, Sarabeth Lemley of Evergreen, CO, Sherilyn Scott (Donny) of Wadesville and Steve Knapp (Dawn) of Evansville; his sister Regina Goebel; and his grandchildren, Kortney Walker (Matt), Hanna Rodriguez (Denny), Alivia Tekoppel (Andy), Austin Knapp, Alexandria Lemley, Claire Knapp, Samantha Lemley and Adam Knapp.
