He was predeceased by: his parents, William Ward and Effie Ward; his wife Edith Mae Ward (Willett); and his siblings, Charles, Howard, Thurston, Alton and Ruth Phelps.

He is survived by: his children, Patricia Vordtriede (Bill), Robert Ward (Opal) and Wanda Schultz; and his grandchildren, Michael Blemker (Emily), Michelle Graman (Curt), Larry Hodge, Wendy Ward, Bobby Ward (Phoebe), April Brown, Karen Latham, Jamie Young (Terri) and Tara Pierce. He is also survived by nineteen great grandchildren; and twenty eight great-great grandchildren.
