He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph, Jr. Schmitt and Nannie Schmitt (Smothermon); his grandson Theodore "Teddy" Long; and his parents-in-law, Joe and Allene Hisch.
He is survived by: his wife Donna Schmitt (Hisch); his children, Allison Long (Brandon), Andrew Schmitt (Kristin Briney) and Adam Schmitt (Becca Putans); his grandchildren, Isabel Long, Harrison Schmitt, Oliver Long and Wilhelmina Schmitt; and his brother Albert Schmitt (Gloria).
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Wendel Catholic Church or to St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis, TN.
