He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Rueger and Emma Rueger (Lewis); his wife Dorothy Rueger (Garrigan); his siblings, Edward, Robert, Kenneth Rueger, Dorothy Malone, Mary Schuble, Ruth Duncan, Polly Pugh, Lorene Rueger and Francis Riecken; and his grandson Benjamin Rueger.

He is survived by: his brother Donald Rueger; his children, Jeff Rueger (Lisa), Mindy Rueger Hass and Chris Rueger; his grandchildren, Dale Smith, Valarie Lewis (Shawn), Katie Rueger Smith, Jessica Wildeman (Nathan), Andrea Hillgoth and Logan Hass (Calla); and his great grandchildren, Chloe, Sophie, Ady, Jackson, Harper, Millie, Charlotte, Carmi, Grace, Haley, Levi and Madison.
