He was predeceased by: his parents, Virginia Ruth and Walter Deer; his stepfather Wilfred Luigs; his siblings, Judith Beck and Jon M. Deer; and his sister-in-law Elaine Deer.
He is survived by: his wife Sharon Deer (Rueger); his children, Dana Kepler (Terry) of Montgomery, Texas, David Deer (Lisa) of Renton, WA and Sara Ellsworth (Marcus) of Indianapolis; and his grandchildren, Rebecca Ashmore (George), Tom Kepler (Kim), Arika CeFaratti, Dustin Deer (Karina), Megan Ellsworth (Hayden) and Sam Ellsworth (Erin).
