He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold David and Viola Schmahlenberger (Lockyear); his son David Schmahlenberger; his son-in-law Anthony Stevens; and his grandson Shaun Barber.

He is survived by: his wife Barbara Schmahlenberger (Koressel); his children, Allen Schmahlenberger (Kim), Tony Schmahlenberger (Kathy), Brenda Stevens, Frank Schmahlenberger (Helena) and Michael Schmahlenberger (Kirby); and his grandchildren, Chris, Tracey (Jeremy), Mindy (Mark), Amy, Justin (Bethany), Tad, Jason (Laura), Ashley (Chris), Candi (J. R.), David (Jamie), Samantha, McKinsey, Vannah, Waylon and Liam. He is also survived by many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
