He is survived by: his wife Catherine Schmitt (Seib); his children, Donna Sue Schmitt (Tim), Elaine Schmitt (Kevin), Herman Schmitt, Jr. (Cindy), Eugene Schmitt (Elizabeth), Mark Schmitt (Charlotte) and Ron Schmitt (Tracy); and his siblings, Mary Louise Brooks, Rita Ann Gries (Alvin) and Jerome Schmitt (Loretta). He is also survived by seventeen grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
