He was predeceased by: his parents, Juanita Bowlds (Marsch) and James M. Bowlds; his wife Sandy Bowlds (Beard); and his siblings, James "Red" Bowlds, Charlie Powell, Howard Powell, Lois Garrison, Brenda Barnett and Dorothy Sugg.

He is survived by: his sons, Bryan Bowlds (Kathy Masiarczyk), Herschel L. Bowlds, Jr. and Danny J. Bowlds; his grandchildren, Richard Bowlds, Erik Bowlds, Abbi Bowlds, Matt Bowlds, Adam Bowlds and Andrew Bowlds; and his brother David "Brett" Powell (Debi). He is also survived by several great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Friday, September 4th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Saturday, September 5th 2026 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Ziemer Funeral Home North Chapel (6300 N First Ave, Evansville, IN 47710). A funeral service was held on Saturday, September 5th 2026 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Saturday, September 5th 2026 from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM at the Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery (1800 St George Rd, Evansville, IN 47711).
