He was predeceased by: his parents, Carrie Schmitt (Koch) and John Schmitt; his wife Betty Lou Schmitt (Thurston); his son Bobby Schmitt; his son-in-law Don Rudo; his siblings, Mary Rose Parady (Art), Betty Froehle (Herman), Leo Schmitt (Josephine), Raymond Schmitt (Elizabeth) and Bob Schmitt; and his siblings-in-law, Leo Mueller and Jane Schmitt.
He is survived by: his children, Janet Rudo of Monticello, IN, Dave Schmitt (Jama) of Shelbyville, IN, Rick Schmitt (Tina) of Evansville and Mike Schmitt (Terry) of Evansville; his grandchildren, Theo Stone (Rosie), Greg Stone (Katy), Steve Stone, Philip Stone (Sarah), Daniel Stone (Heidi), Justin Schmitt, Jordan Schmitt, Logan Schmitt (Madi), Tyler Schmitt (Lauren), Aaron Schmitt (Jessie), Myles DeVoy, Griffin DeVoy and Sam DeVoy; his siblings, Carolyn Mueller, Charles Schmitt and Fred Schmitt; and his sister-in-law Carolyn Schmitt. He is also survived by 20 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
