He was predeceased by: his parents, Harvey Cyril "Sid" and Christina Bernadine Rutter (Banks); and his siblings, Charles Rutter, Mary Jo Gatewood and Shirley Jean Healy.

He is survived by: his wife Marilyn K. Rutter; his children, Cindy Morel (Dan), Brad Rutter (Will Bruce), Chris Patterson (Dan), Scott Shelton (Brandi) and Tamara Skinner (John); his grandchildren, Allie Bertram (Josh), Rachel Wigginton, Brady, Emilie Patterson, Brittany Skinner, Katelyn Schantz (Anthony), Hunter, Houston Sullenger, Savannah Greulich and Daniel Bruce Scarlett (Maggie); his great grandchildren, Aubrey Bertram, Weston, Jaemyn Wigginton, Jasper Whitlock of Anthony, Schantz, Oliver, Orion, Oakley Sullenger, Brooks and Rhett; and his sister Louise Acree (Charles). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
