He is survived by: his wife Vicki Elpers (Wildt); his children, Theresa Schickel (Tim), Joseph D. Elpers, Jr. (Dana), Mark Elpers (Missie), Tim Elpers (Donna) and Jeff Elpers; his brothers, Tom Elpers (Carol) and Paul Elpers (Martha); and his grandchildren, Tyler Schickel, Victoria Scheidecker, Tanner Schickel, Joshua, Kaleb, Makenna Elpers, Makayla, Manning Elpers, Brittney Dutton and Mitch Ashby.
