He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph C. Diehl and Margaret Laugel Diehl; his wife Sharon Olberding Diehl; and his siblings, Joseph B. Diehl, Mary Jane Diehl Hermanson, Esther Diehl Miller and Dorothy Diehl O'Leary.

He is survived by: his children, Julie Diehl Fest (Curt), Jane Diehl and Joseph C. Diehl (Jane Rae); his grandchildren, Nick Fest (Julie), Kate Fest (Will), Andrew Selk (Colleen), Aaron Selk, Victoria Woolsey (Kenny) and Caroline Diehl; his great grandchildren, Evan Fest, Avery Fest, Brooklyn Fest and Woolsey; and his close friend Rosalee Bucherl.
