He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Wathen and Ruth Wathen (Crowder); his wife Wanda "Ruth" Wathen (Rice); and his sisters, Norma Jean Niehaus and Marilyn Johnson.
He is survived by: his children, Rian Wathen, Ranece Wathen and Rhet Wathen (Tiffany); his brother Wayne Wathen; his grandchildren, Madison Jones (Dean), Senior Airman Ian Wathen and Brandon Paul; and his great grandchildren, Calvin Dean Jones and Nora Steele Jones.
