He was predeceased by: his father Ronald Chester Sargent; and his stepfather Steve Gates. He is survived by: his mother Arvell Gates (Croft); his wife Faith Sargent (Happe); his children, Hope Happe-Sargent (Richard), Hayden Sargent, Holden Sargent and Russell Sargent; his siblings, Kelly Gates (Don), Jeff Gates (Kasia) and Rob Sargent; and his grandson Richard Davis VI.
