It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Sylvia Ruth Nichols of Evansville, Indiana, who passed away on January 18, 2026, at the age of 85, leaving to mourn family and friends. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Esther Gebelein and Howard Gebelein; and her spouse Dale Nichols. She is survived by: her son Tom Nichols (Deb) of Haubstadt, IN; her siblings, Marion Skundrich of Bethalto, IL, John Gebelein (Linda) of East Alton, IL and Don Gebelein (Pat) of Fairfield, OH; her sister-in-law Sandra Wiggin of McLeansboro, IL; her granddaughters, Julia Baehl (Hayden) and Elizabeth Nichols; and her great grandchildren, Russell, Louise and Warren Baehl. She is also survived by 1 nephew and 4 nieces.
During her tenure on the Eastern Illinois University Foundation Board, Sylvia established a scholarship fund.
