He was predeceased by: his parents, Barbara Schaefer (Elpers) and Leo Schaefer; his wife Dean Elliott Schaefer; and his sister Bernice Fenwick. He is survived by: his children, Julie Patten (Scott), Jennifer Garner (Brian) and Jerry Schaefer; his grandchildren, Candice Dozier, Zachary Patten, Stephanie Van Winkle, Brandon Hartz and Abbie Garner; and his great grandchildren, Kaylie, Mackenzie, Adley, Lainey, Reagan, Calvin, Elliott and Everly.
