He was predeceased by: his parents, Hoyt Herbert and Rosa Nell Tarter (Morris); his former wife Donna Tarter; his son John Tarter; his brother Raymond Tarter; and his brother-in-law Harold Vincent.
He is survived by: his wife Elaine Tarter of Fort Branch, Indiana; his children, David Tarter (Lisa) of Fairdale, William Tarter (Kim) of Bloomington and Susan Thompson (Ethan) of Jeffersonville, Indiana; his stepchildren, Deborah Hubbard (John) of Mt. Olympus, Douglas Bury (Gina) of Delavan, Todd Bury (Sandra) of Owensville and Traci Miller (Jon) of Terre Haute, Indiana.; his sister Loretta Vincent of Irvington, Kentucky; and his sister-in-law Jackie Tarter of Danville. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
