He was predeceased by: his father Samuel Brateman; and his brother Irving Brateman. He is survived by: his wife Adrienne Brateman; his sons, Michael Brateman and Paul (Molly Brateman); and his granddaughter Samara Brateman of Fort Wayne.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his honor may be directed to Humane Fort Wayne.
