He was predeceased by: his wife Joan Faye Precht. He is survived by: his daughters, Linda O'Connor (John) and Amy Bartell; his grandchildren, Kelly (Kate), Stacy Bartell (Zac), Patrick and Michael O'Connor; and his great grandchildren, Georgia Bartell and Penelope Hotaling-O'Connor.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations in Bert's memory be made to two non-profits he generously supported; the Southern Poverty Law Center (splcenter.org) or the Riley Children's Foundation (rileykids.org).
