He was predeceased by: his parents, Morton "Hap" Hathaway and Erma Hathaway (Rose); and his sisters, Gloria Yagodinski, Dorothy Ford and Marjorie Norton.
He is survived by: his wife Betty Hathaway (Reuille); his children, Laura Gammons (Paul) of Fort Wayne, Nancy Vandell (Chip) of Fort Wayne, Sharon Garrett (Jason) of Fort Wayne, Gordon Hathaway (Cris) of New Haven and Rex Hathaway of New Haven; and his brother Donald Hathaway of Asheville, NC. He is also survived by 27 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
