Donald G. Byrd Obituary

Donald G. Byrd, age 66, of Fort Wayne, Indiana entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Saturday, February 18, 2023. He was born in Ft. Wayne, son of Donald T. and Phyllis (Safewright) Byrd. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, stepmother Alice, brother Jim and sister Linda. Donald joined Air National Guard in 1975 in Ft. Wayne at Bear Field. He worked as a aircraft mechanic on fuel systems for 15 years. He received several awards and certificates during his tenure. He was also the youngest Chief Master Sargent which he received 1987. He later retired from GE/SABIC IP in Mt. Vernon, In. Don was an avid fly fisherman, he enjoyed the calmness of it. With his interest in flying he took flying lessons and loved flying his Sprint ultralight. His love for music was phenomenal. Spending time with family and friends was very important to him. Donald is survived by his wife Melody, three children Penny (Gordon) Allas Katie (Chris) Robinson and Donald D. (Mallory) Byrd. His three stepson Jeremy (Kim) Gordon, Joshua (Janis) Gordon and Colton (Shelby) Sain. His siblings Tom (Cindy) Byrd, Janice (Dan) Brown, Keith (Paula) Muncie and Pamela (Bruce) Bauer. His aunt Ramona (Richard) Staley and uncle Wayne Penrod. He will be missed also by 16 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
