He is survived by: his children, Catherine Adams (Steve), Elizabeth Helmer (John), Jeanne Carberry and John Jr. (Nancy); his daughter-in-law Patty Nowlan; and his sisters, Betty Maloney and Patricia Bialecke. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made through contributions to the American Red Cross USA Disaster Relief.
