He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Gater and Lillian Gater; and his brother Danny Gater. He is survived by: his wife Nancy; his children, Michael Chapman (Mandy) and Christine Doelling (Jacob); his grandchildren, Zachary, Katelyn, DeVera and Sophia; and his siblings, Larry Gater (Carol), Stan Gater (Lydia), Russ Gater (Mary), Alex Gater (Ann), Laura Schneider (Ben), Ginny Hemminger (Gary) and Sharon Ummel (Jeff).
