He was predeceased by: his parents, Aird Gerber and Merle Merkley; his wife Toni Rae Merkley; his brothers, Wayne Merkley and Glade Merkley; his brother-in-law Richard Horton; his sister Marilyn Merkley; and his sisters-in-law, Gretta Merkley and Nordine Merkley.
He is survived by: his daughters, Christine Merkley (Steve Smith) of Fort Wayne, Marilyn Lepore (Greg) of Columbia and Deborah Hensley (Joshua) of Moscow, Russia; and his siblings, Delores Horton, Jean Hawkins (Graham) and Margaret Snow (Gary). He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
