He was predeceased by : his sons, Michael and Timothy Spears; his sisters, Sue Leonard, Anna Belle Spears and Rose Marie Spears; his nephew Jimmy Leonard; and his granddaughter Ashley Spears.

He is survived by : his daughter Kecia Leigh Spears (Brian Beltz); his wife Ruthie Spears; and his children, Gene Spears, Quint Villars (Brenda Villars), Scott Villars and Vickie Murden. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
