He was predeceased by: his parents, Fay Thompson and Mildred Thompson (Woods); his wife Jo Elaine Kelly; his sons, Steven Fay Thompson and David Scott Thompson; and his siblings, Mary Underhill, Anita Pierce and Gene Thompson.

He is survived by: his daughters-in-law, Andrea Thompson of Tipton and Betty Thompson of Willspoint, TX; and his niece Tari Pierce of Lafayette. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
