He was predeceased by: his father Harold "Gene" Nelson; his brothers, Ed Nelson, Steve Nelson and William "Bill" Nelson; and his brother-in-law Bill Mallard.
He is survived by: his mother Virginia Nelson (Blevins) of Garrett; his wife Susie (Smith); his sister Kathy Mallard of Maine; his sister-in-law Cherrie Nelson of Auburn; his aunt Karen Davis; his uncle Keith Blevins (Lisa); and his nieces and nephews, Dustie Wallace (Tim), Rodney Mallard, Steve Nelson Jr. (Jamie), Jenny Nelson, Ryan Nelson (Sarah) and Stephanie Rice (Andy).
