He was predeceased by : his parents, Roy Carter and Charlotte Carter; and his siblings, Roy Carter, Gary Carter, Bobby Carter and Shelba Dilda.

He is survived by : his children, Trisha Cannon (Chris), Heather King and Dennis Carter II (Michelle); his sister Debbie Lightfoot (Dale); and his former life partner Sandra Davis. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
